The Little Mermaid

Incredible! Today it’s 4ºC, the highest temperature I’ve had since I arrived in Copenhagen 1 month ago.

The other day, me and some friends went for a walk, that day was so cold that I couldn’t feel my feet, my nose was tomato red and my tongue was hardly articulating the words…

We visited the Little Mermaid!

This statue has history: it was made because the son of the founder of Carlsberg Beer liked the fairytale, The Little Mermaid by the danish Hans Christian Andersen, so much. It was created in 1913 but it only became famous after 1964, when she was decapitated! The original head never showed up, so they’ve made her a new one!

Meanwhile, it was found with the head covered by blankets several times… and on the 8th of March, 2008 was found with a vibrator hanging in her hands… some people said this form of vandalism was a way of protesting for women’s rights!

The statue is located at The Kastellet, an old fortress turned into a park, that looks like a turtle on the map. It is a lovely walk around the park. But don’t be disappointed, as the name suggests the Little Mermaid is really little.

Anyway, good news: I have a bicycle! 😀

My bicycle

Ah if you knew the adventure that I’ve been through! No, I haven’t fallen, yet! But I have learnt that I shouldn’t rush to cross on a yellow traffic light, instead I should stop… Neither should I use the middle of the bicycle pathway.

If you know the rules, it’s easy peasy!
