Culture Shock – Driving in Africa Advice

    02/09/2018 /

CULTURE SHOCK I never knew exactly what was it. I thought it would only happen to people who aren’t open-minded or don’t like travelling to remote areas. When I travel, it is the different ways of thinking and the unusual ways of living that excites me. But this one late evening, 3 weeks into my time in Tanzania, I found myself speechless, with my stomach turning when I found out that our other guide and driver hit a pedestrian and ran away. Our guide said he had to do it, “everybody does it”. I knew he wasn’t a bad guy but at first I couldn’t understand why this crimewas okay…

    Camels on the road!!!!

    22/06/2015 /

As morning broke my sleepy eyes were greeted with a surprise as I looked out of our window, our Riad was located next to the massive wall of a mountain. When we arrived last night it was pitch black and we couldn’t see much beyond the Riad, so I was shocked to see such an impressive sight in the daylight. Oh it is time! Ibrahim welcome us with a big smile! Quickly we get back on the road, today is the second day of our road trip to the desert! After a brief stop at the monkey finger’s mountain and looking over the big city of Tinghir, we approach the Todra Gorge. It is…

On the way to the desert I found a Disney city…

    19/06/2015 /

On the way to the desert there are mountains to be crossed, middle-of-no-where-roadside-persistent vendors to face, movie-sets to explore, nomadic berber families to meet, their camels to adore, a few quite big cities built in the middle of a deserted land to pass, a night in a countryside riad, more tangine to eat and moroccan tea to drink… among others. It is a 600km journey divided in 2 days, driven by our guide Ibrahim, whose favorite phrase is: “No problem!” (in his moroccan accent!) Love it! “Do you want to stop here? No problem!” Ibrahim says. We left Marrakech 3 hours ago and we are now passing through a little village that…

Roadtrip in Scotland – waterproof tent?!

    06/08/2012 /

Day 3 Drop, Drop, Drop… I wake up with water dropping on my head. Without moving I look around, what is happening?! It’s raining outside and also inside our tent! hahaha, so good! -.-‘ As I sit up, so Marie and Thibaud wake up. We have to get out of here as soon as possible… but first shake the laziness from the body and get the courage to face the Midges! That’s right, they are back, and they are just outside looking for a little hole to get in! Rain does not scare them away! Ready, steady, go! In few minutes everything is taken back to the car! What to do next?! We need fuel……

Road Trip in Scotland – Sheep on the Road

    05/08/2012 /

Day 2 The heat inside the tent wakes us up shortly after 7am… as we open the tent the sun blinds us briefly and as we regain our vision, we come across this amazing view: Wowww! There are no Midges! So it’s true, they don’t like the sun. We climb the mountain, following the sound of the water running and we end up finding the perfect place for a bath, well a sort of bath! With our bikini, towels and our nature-friendly-soap, here we go! The water is nicely cold and refreshes our body and soul. …………………………………….. After a lovely breakfast – picnic mode – we get back on the road with…

Road Trip in Scotland – Driving on the left

    04/08/2012 /

Day 1 I have to admit: for the last couple of weeks I couldn’t stop thinking on the adventure we were about to start now: Road Trip in Scotland and wild camping for 6 days!! Marie and Thibaud came from France to London to visit me and last night we got the National Express coach from London to Glasgow – a 10 hours journey that we’ve got for as little as £22. 7:20 am, we arrived in Glasgow… the city is slowly awaking up for another day. The downtown of Glasgow is not that big and there is not that much to see, but we found people from here very…

The year when childhood dreams came true.
I married the love of my life in a princess dress. And had the sweetest page boy, who was the star of my year. He is a giver of joy and slabery kisses.

Feeling so blessed! 🙏
30.11.21 🕊 It was raining, but I didn’t know 30.11.21 🕊

It was raining, but I didn’t know that. My whole body and mind were focused on the journey to meet you.

The nurse gave me a room with a pool and daddy was in charge of keeping the temperature right for us. I walked in that hospital with 2 hearts and 4 lungs, in love with my ever growing belly.

I was so excited to meet you and yet gutted that soon you were not going to be kicking from the inside. But you were ready to come out into the world and I was bursting with love to give to you.

I didn’t know what to expect, what I was going to call you, what songs I was going to sing to you. I didn’t know how my life was going to change, what would feel like to be a mother.

I didn’t know if you were a boy or a girl but you were everything I wished for. Our little miracle, magically growing inside my body.

The night was long, but the hour leading up to the minute you were born was fast. A room full of doctors and midwives pulled you out quickly to save our lives. Tears streamed down my face when your cry filled the theatre at 13h08. “It’s a boy, it’s a boy!”- the famous daddy words!

I have been waiting for you my whole life and I can’t believe I am finally getting to know you.

You arrived brave, sweet and curious: a laid-back explorer of the world.

Today I am sitting here in tears because I have a one-year-old son! It’s surreal! They were right, time flies and it is so unfair when all you want to do to is cuddle your little baby for a little longer. But you learn fast, and before I knew it, you were lifting your head up, sitting up on your own, crawling across the house and 2 days ago you let go of my hand because you can walk on your on now, somehow...

So, here’s to you, meu Anjinho, Amor da mama, meu Tesourinho.

Here’s to a year of singing “You are my sunshine”, cuddles to sleep and your little hand on my neck to sooth you.

Here’s to you, repeating “ma ma ma ma” and now you tell everyone proudly that I am your "mama mama".

Here’s to your passion for gui’TAR and your singing duets with daddy.

Here’s to mornings watching Paddington, cuddling in the sofa.
