Road Trip in Scotland – Sheep on the Road
Day 2 The heat inside the tent wakes us up shortly after 7am… as we open the tent the sun blinds us briefly and as we regain our vision, we come across this amazing view: Wowww! There are no Midges! So it’s true, they don’t like the sun. We climb the mountain, following the sound of the water running and we end up finding the perfect place for a bath, well a sort of bath! With our bikini, towels and our nature-friendly-soap, here we go! The water is nicely cold and refreshes our body and soul. …………………………………….. After a lovely breakfast – picnic mode – we get back on the road with…

Road Trip in Scotland – Driving on the left
Day 1 I have to admit: for the last couple of weeks I couldn’t stop thinking on the adventure we were about to start now: Road Trip in Scotland and wild camping for 6 days!! Marie and Thibaud came from France to London to visit me and last night we got the National Express coach from London to Glasgow – a 10 hours journey that we’ve got for as little as £22. 7:20 am, we arrived in Glasgow… the city is slowly awaking up for another day. The downtown of Glasgow is not that big and there is not that much to see, but we found people from here very…

Bonfires, spells and traditions in Spain
We are running late! As usual.. After washing off the salt from a day at the beach, me and Nuria leave the house in a hurry to meet other friends. In the air there is a smell of bonfires, it reminds me so much of the winters in my childhood at my grandparents village. Tonight, families and friends gather together to celebrate the Saint John’s night around a bonfire. We head to the beach, Cangas, north of Vigo in Galicia. It’s nearly midnight and we arrived! The scenery we see is heartwarming… The beach has a bonfire every few meters, some wilder than others. Around the fire friends happily gather chatting, singing, drinking,…

Tapas in Santiago de Compostela
10 am, just arrived in Santiago de Compostela, the capital of Galicia, in the north of Spain! After completing 101 rounds to the big University Campus (no, I’m not exaggerating!) we found a place to park the car. I have been looking forward to this trip, the start of the summer (London’s sun hasn’t been very generous lately). It’s such a beautiful day! The sun is shining… owh but it is still cold! Jackets will have to stay on!

A year ago today (I moved to London)…
After almost 1h in the underground from the airport till the city center of London, I realized how little I know about this city! Between buying the one way flight ticket on an impulse and landing in the lands of Her Majesty, it has only passed 1 week. The only research I’ve done was about finding a nursing job and a room to rent. In my suitcase I have the papers to take to the Nursing Council, the directions of how to get to the hostel and the hope to start a new life. A voice reports the next stop is PICCADILLY CIRCUS, my final destination. Out of the underground, I…

Paris by the riverside
Looking at the map: “well, we are here, we want to go there, it’s 3 little squares… it’s fine to walk!” And after walking by the Seine river for 2hours with a few stops for photographs, we understand that every little square is equivalent to 2km! I lost count on how many bridges we passed, but the following one is special: it’s a footbridge, it is not the famous Pont des Arts – known for the lovers padlocks. It is the Passerelle Solférino, which also has some padlocks. Lovers come here to lock their padlock and throw the key in the river as a symbol of eternal love. One looking-old padlock has written: Sophie…

Moulin Rouge
It’s getting dark and after another adventure in the underground of Paris, we come out to the streets to be welcomed with fluorescent colors, appealing, twinkling slogans in the shops that we can read: SEX STORE, CRAZY SEXY TOYS, FANTASY…

Eiffel Tower
It’s a new day and I walk out to the street and scream, literally scream: – GOOD MORNING PARIS! They laugh and one or another head turns to see “that crazy girl screaming”. My friend’s flat is within walking distance from the famous EiffelTower. We are so excited that we walk very fast, as if there wasn’t going to be time enough to visit it.

Et voilá, Je suis a Paris!
While I’m waiting for Aga and Marie, I observe the street and after about 15 minutes I realized that the walking zebra for pedestrians is not understood as such: for the drivers it’s like they have a sign saying “let’s see who goes faster!” Because the drivers DON’T stop at all! It’s a marathon departing from different places, going in different directions! What do they all have in common? Everybody wants to go first! It’s madness!

Takeoff…
It’s 6.40am, time to takeoff! This has always been my favorite part of travelling by plane: no matter where I am going, I am going to fly! The airplane get’s ready, facing the long large road and it is now speeding. I like to push myself forward to feel the gravity pulling my body against the seat! Faster, faster and faster… I feel those butterflies in my tummy, an emptiness under my seat, the airplane leans (and there is this brief moment where I always think the airplane is going to touch the floor while it is leaning up – it’s silly I know). I can see the ground moving away, the houses…

Anthem of Bayonne
Heading to the city center… people are already celebrating, promising another night of dancing and singing, drinking and cheering! There are several stages with different performances across the city center and we are heading to one. But it is very busy in here and through the crowds we make our way to the main stage. In order not to lose anyone, we hold the red scarf attached to the waist of the person in front of us and off we go following each other. As we walk along, we greet the people passing by “OLÉÉÉ!” and we get back another greeting with a lifting of the hat or a glass half full!…

Fêtes de Bayonne
I open my bag… What am I going to wear?! The colors don’t change much: white or… white! So white will be! I tie the red scarf on my waist and on my neck I put the small scarf that Aurelien gave me. Well, now I’m properly dressed to the party, let’s go!

Arrived in Bayonne!
After 16h on the bus, without eating anything (I feel travel sick easily), I arrived in BAYONNE, south of France! The driver told me there was a change to the bus stop, as they had to close some streets because of the festivities in the city center. That’s ok, I thought, but I wasn’t expecting to be left on my own in the middle of a big roundabout, where I could only see big warehouses, well pretty much in the middle of nowhere, at 1:20am! The driver explains to me the way to my destiny – the train station in the city center where my friend is expecting me: “… It’s about 2km…

Christiania
Where are we going today? Let’s get out of the country without leaving the city: let’s go to Christiania!!! My full-of-holes-map keeps me in the right direction… straight forward, turn first left, then right, pass in front of the cathedral (quite high!), again left… walking 50 meters and the entrance is somewhere around heeeeere…Ah there!!! We arrived in Christiania! The walls are covered in graffiti and the buildings look old, well lived, with doors wide open for bars, small shops and a sort of museum! Let’s get in! 2 floors up, we found a little exposition and a little shop. There was a guide, a man who lives in the neighborhood that told us the story…

Black Diamond – Royal Library
Today I have to study and it’s a rainy day! But not one of those days when you feel like staying at home… Got my laptop in my bag, my notebook and a book about dialysis. Get on my bike and I’m heading to the Royal Library, also known as Black Diamond!
